Science fiction is a broad and ever-evolving genre where the possibilities of an imagined world can seem almost limitless. Yet, some of the most successful and thought-provoking works of science fiction have engaged readers in the short form, providing them brief glimpses into expansive worlds.
Perhaps you have thought of providing readers a glimpse into a world you’ve created—if so, this is the workshop for you. During this workshop, we will read Octavia E. Butler, Jeff VanderMeer, Stephen Graham Jones, Joanna Russ, William Gibson, and other award-winning science fiction writers.
Workshop attendees will draft, workshop, and leave the class with one science fiction short story of 10 to 15 pages. It is the goal of this class to provide you with readings, craft discussions, and writing tools to help grow your confidence in writing science fiction, while also providing clear steps towards how you can publish your writing for others to read and enjoy.
